I’m a storyteller who sings, speaks, performs, writes, teaches and contributes to various media platforms.
But primarily, I tell stories… like this one:
I had the privilege to meet renown folk singer Odetta a year before she died. It was a double privilege as I was given the opportunity to have her hear me sing. Her assessment was swift – “You are a professional singer, ” she said. I demurred, saying “No.”
Odetta gave me a cut eye. “Why not?” she said.
A couple of years later, I found myself saying “why not” to a lot of things, leading me to change careers and tell stories – as I was always meant to do.
Because you don’t gainsay Odetta.
